DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Lawrence J. Steines, 77, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at home, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Monsignor Ed Petty officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1925, in Springbrook, son of Henry and Catherine (Heiar) Steines. He married Isabelle Klein on Sept. 28, 1949, in Balltown.

He worked at what is now the Alter Co. in Dubuque for 38 years.

Surviving are his wife, Isabelle; a daughter, Mary Ann Stock, of Waterloo; two sons, William (Bonnie) Steines, of Dubuque, and Roger (Bernadine) Steines, of Merrimack, N.H.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elverda Engling and Melinda Kunkel, both of Dubuque; a brother, LeRoy (Betty) Steines, of Dubuque; and two sisters-in-law, Agnes Steines, of Dubuque, and Edith Mae Steines, of Keokuk.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Fulton Stock; three brothers, Henry, Jr., Herman and Sylvester Steines; and two brothers-in-law, Hubert Engling and Duane Kunkel.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Manzel, Dr. Ott, Jr., Dr. Payne and their staff, and Hospice for their wonderful care.
