DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Lorraine D. Streif, 68, of 31922 Olde Castle Road, Dyersville, died at midnight Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with Monsignor Edward Petty officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Streif worked as an obstetric nurse at the former Xavier Hospital in Dubuque, and at St. Mary's Unit of Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville. After she left nursing, Lorraine volunteered her time as a teacher's aide at St. Francis Xavier Elementary.

She was born on March 28, 1935, daughter of Peter and Doris (Sackmaster) Oppelt. She married Darrel Streif on Oct. 26, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She was a graduate of the former Immaculate Conception Academy, Dubuque. She received her registered nursing degree from Mercedian School of Nursing, Marshalltown.

Lorraine enjoyed watching football and taking daily rides around the Dyersville area with her husband.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Dyersville.

Surviving are her husband, Darrel Streif, of Dyersville; a daughter, Kathy (Joe) Hance, of Des Moines; two brothers, John (Jo) Oppelt and Carl (Diann) Oppelt, both of Dubuque; four sisters, Margaret Oppelt, of Cedar Rapids, and Char (John) Kraus, Lois (LeRoy) Weidemann and Carol (Jerry) Schueller, all of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Pat Oppelt, of Dubuque; and a longtime friend, DeLoras Fortman, of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Peter Oppelt Jr. and Robert Oppelt; and a nephew, Jay Schueller.

A Lorraine D. Streif Memorial Fund has been established.

She is with her Father in Heaven and will be in our memory always.
