Al "The Flyer" Beyer, 64, of Maquoketa, formerly of Dubuque, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 1989, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, of a sudden illness.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Maquoketa United Methodist Church, with private interment. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Teahen Funeral Home, Maquoketa, and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mr. Beyer owned Maquoketa Aviation and was caretaker of the Maquoketa Airport. He formerly owned and operated Beyer Aviation in Dubuque from 1956-84.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1924, at Elmoville, Ill, son of Arthur and Bess (Belk) Beyer. He married Doris Ott on Aug. 28, 1955, at Wonewoc, Wis., she survives.
He was a member of the Maquoketa United Methodist Church, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Mississippi Valley Aviation Association.
Also surviving are a son, David Beyer of Bettendorf; six daughters, Mrs. J.C. (Jeanne) Conley of Sherrill, Susan Beyer of Chicago, Jill Beyer of Iowa City, Kathy Beyer of Maquoketa, Judy Jensen of Beloit, Wis., and Valarie Beyer of Los Angeles; three sisters, Arlene Allen of Bourbonnais, Ill., Bonita Staas of Ridott, Ill., and Sabra Beyer of Dubuque; and three brothers, Delbert Beyer of Redlands, Calif., C.K. (Kelly) Beyer of Iuka, Miss., and Gale Beyer of DeKalb, Ill.
An Al Beyer Memorial Fund has been established.
