Theodore H. Bekkum, 89, of 2495 Asbury Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Private family services will be held at Linwood Cemetery. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bekkum worked at A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co. for 11 years before starting at H & W Motor Express. He worked at H & W for more than 30 years, until his retirement in 1979.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1914, in Belmont, Mont., son of Rudolph and Oline (Torgerson) Bekkum. He married Frances Verba on June 15, 1940, at Grace Lutheran Church, Chicago.

He was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, Frances (Verba) Bekkum, of Dubuque; two sons, Wayne (Lois) Bekkum, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Brian L. (Dorothy) Bekkum, of Davenport, Iowa; two grandchildren, Chad (Rhonda) and Jessica R. Turner-Bekkum; a sister, Thelma (Clarence) Dahlen, of Coon Valley, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Dorothy Culbertson and family, Judy Bailey and Dick and Sally Wernimont for all of their help.
