DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Richard J. "Dick" Thier, 84, of Dyersville, formerly of Worthington, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at the Monticello (Iowa) Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1919, in Dyersville, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Claus) Thier.

He married Mildred White on Aug. 16, 1941, in Dyersville. Together they farmed in the Worthington area until their retirement in 1977, when they moved to Dyersville.

Surviving are four sons, David (Marie) and Daniel (Eileen), both of Worthington, Dale (Ann), of Cedar Rapids, and Richard D., of Juneau, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Al (Donna) Thier and Don (Mary) Thier, both of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, in 1992; a son, Ronald; a grandson, Jerry Thier; a brother, Clete Thier; and a sister, Virginia Gross.
