Cascade Pioneer, Apr. 19, 1895

DIED.—It is with feeling of sorrow that we are obliged to chronicle the death of our friend and fellow citizen, George A. Cook, of Washington Mills, Iowa, which occurred at 1 o'clock p. m., Wednesday, April 10th, 1895, after an illness which lasted through several months. Deceased was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Cook, and was born at Alvalvan. Howard county. Md., February 27th, 1856, and was therefore 39 years old at the time of his death. In 1860 he came west with his parents who settled on a farm at Washington Mills, and with whom he resided until the time of his death. His surviving relatives are his father and four sisters, Mary, Agnes and Annie, at home, and Mrs. Richard Redmond, of Castle Grove, Iowa. His mother, Ellen died in 1887. The subject of this sketch was a man of many excellent qualifications of character and Christian virtues. His holy religion was like the beautiful companion of his boyhood, tho blessed assurance of his middle age and whose magic influence made the closing hour of his well spent life glide peacefully away. His disposition at home was that of sunny cheerfulness, which made him a shining light in the family circle where be will be sadly missed by his father and sisters, whoso tender affection for him during his long sickness soothed his mind and removed the bitter sting from death. With his neighbors and friends ho was highly esteemed for his honesty and integrity.
The funeral, which was one of the largest seen in this vicinity for years, was held Friday from his residence to St. Patrick's church, Garry Owen, Rev. Father Kelley, officiating. The remains were laid in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Nicholas Redmond, John Higgins, Michael Donahue, William Cannon, Peter Feeney and J. M. Donahue.
