Leslie R. "Les" Stone, 85, of Luther Manor, formerly of 17660 S. John Deere Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Luther Manor, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. Stone worked at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring after 29 years of service.

He was born on March 28, 1918, in Manchester, Iowa, son of William and Nellie (Mattox) Stone. He married Arnetha Larson on Sept. 27, 1941, in Oneida, Iowa.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a wonderful family man who enjoyed water skiing and taking care of the family horses.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6 and the United Automobile Workers Local 94.

Surviving are his wife, Arnetha, of Dubuque; two children, Gary Stone and Vickie (Jon) Thill, both of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Mollie, Ryan and Colin Thill; a sister, Velma Jensen, of Coggan, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Burdette Stone; and his father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Gertie Larson.

A Les Stone Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their loving care.
