Mrs. Gerald J. (Vicki L.) Schlarman, 58, of 2537 Stafford Street, died at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of a stroke.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, following cremation. There will be no public visitation. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Vicki was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School and the Dubuque Beauty Academy. She attended the University of Iowa Nursing Program. Vicki worked as a beautician for several years and was employed by Swiss Colony for more than ten years.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1945, in Dubuque, daughter of Victor Peter and Juanita Elizabeth (Klauer) Remy.

She was a founder and long time member of the Dubuque County-Key City Genealogical Society and a member of the Phoenix Group. She was also a member of the Iowa State Historical Society.

Vicki spent many happy hours tracing her family genealogy as well as studying and teaching the history of Dubuque County. She was a "Historian of Local Lore."

Vicki was an accomplished seamstress and needleworker, especially crocheting and knitting.

She enjoyed traveling and camping with her family and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her husband, Gerald J. Schlarman; a son, Thomas J. (Tegan Purcell) Schlarman, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and an aunt, Lorraine Remy, of Dubuque.

Memorials may be given to the Center for Dubuque History, 3/8O Loras College, 1450 Alta Vista Street, Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
