ASBURY, Iowa - James A. "Jim" Hall, 65, of 6125 Seven Springs, Asbury, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a very short, but amazingly courageous, battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Hall was a store manager for Eagle Food Centers for more than 44 years.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1938, in Dubuque, son of Edward J. and Elizabeth (Casey) Hall. He married Judy Mullady.

Jim graduated from the former Loras Academy in 1956.

He had been a volunteer for the United Way, serving as executive and trustee board chair. He also served as a business partner for Audubon and Lincoln Elementary schools, and was a site council member for Lincoln Elementary.

Jim enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Bears fan. He has been a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Jim was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and brother, a true friend and an admirable co-worker. He was a man who touched and influenced many lives in a positive manner. He will be truly missed by all and fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife, Judy (Mullady) Hall, of Asbury; five daughters, Christine Hall, of Rochester, Minn., Kelly (Dan "Mac") McMahon, Kim (Paul) Kramer and Jennifer (Kevin Wernimont) Frommelt, all of Dubuque, and Corinne Hall, of Cedar Rapids; a son, Jeffrey Hall, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, Taqouri "Cory" Lott, Hannah Rose, Jacob and Nicholas McMahon, Nathan Hall, Sarah, Alayna and Ryan Klinkhammer, Kyle and Stephanie Kramer and Jalee, Cody and Alea Frommelt; a brother, Joseph L. (Anne) Hall, of Dubuque; three sisters, Wilma Burns, Verna Metz and Ann (Fred) Price, all of Dubuque; and his mother-in-law, Charlotte Pigg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward "Pat" Hall; a sister, Mary Schiel; and two brothers-in-law, Louis Metz and Robert Burns.
