Mrs. Thomas R. (Marion Hope) Ford, Sr., 89, of Ennoble Manor Care Center, formerly of Windsor Park, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

Mrs. Ford taught at Sageville grade school for 23 years, retiring in 1979.

She was born on March 13, 1914, in Jonesville, Va., daughter of Charles and Mattie (Lambert) Denny.

She attended Radford (Va.) College, and graduated from the University of Dubuque.

Marion served in the Navy WAVES as a pharmacist mate during World War II. While serving in Cherry Point, N.C., she met and married Thomas R. Ford, Sr. They were married on Aug. 17, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Bern, N.C.; he died on Aug. 2, 1982.

Marion had been a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women for more than 50 years. She also was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association.

Surviving are her son, Thomas R. (Bev) Ford, Jr., of Dubuque; two grandchildren, Katie Ford, of Iowa City, and Michael (Kym) Ford, of Santee, Calif.; her great-grandson, Beau; and a niece and a nephew, who live in Virginia.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Memorials may be given to St. Luke's Memorial Fund and the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
