DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Mrs. Irene Kruse, 79, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at home in Dubuque, after a brief bout with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Kruse worked at the Peakenbrock Sewing Factory and then at Modernfold before retiring in 1989.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1924, in Petersburg, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Weber) Bildstein.

She married Laverne L. Kruse on Aug. 22, 1944, in Petersburg. Together they farmed until they moved to Dyersville in 1969.

She enjoyed spending time with the four generations of her family and traveling.

Surviving are five sons, Ron (Pat) and Tom (Gail), both of Dyersville, Carl (Kris), of Monticello, Gary "Pink" (Jan), of New Vienna, and Dennis (Laurie), of Bettendorf; two daughters, Doris (Tony) Wagner, of Dyersville, and Nancy, of Dubuque; 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Adelaide Bildstein, Mary Bildstein, Charlotte Bildstein, Norma Bildstein and Dorothy Kostermann; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Engelken.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne; two sons, Robert and Randy; two sisters, Rita Mae Engelken and Marie Rausch; and eight brothers, Lawrence, Joseph, Jr., Andy, Clarence, Ambrose, Cletus and two brothers in infancy.
