Mr. James D. "Jim" Gulick, 72, of 1765 Key Way Drive, died of heart failure at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a parish Christian wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Gulick worked at Ready Mix Concrete Co. of Dubuque, and Sherwin Williams Paint Co. He then worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 25 years before retiring in 1990.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1930, in Dubuque, son of Floris and Rose (Pasbach) Gulick. He married Jo Ann T. Gansemer on Aug. 19, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He grew up in Dubuque, and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. He was a Navy veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Dubuque Boat Club, the Dubuque Jaycees, the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6 and Resurrection Catholic Church. He also was a notary public for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann T. Gulick, of Dubuque; a son, Jon Gulick, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Janelle (Kevin) Lynch, of Dubuque, Jennifer (Lt. Col. Michael) Murphy, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Jacqueline Gulick, of San Diego; a brother, Robert (Elaine) Gulick, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Diane (Robert) Kennedy, of Potosi, Wis.; six grandchildren, Brandon, Taylor and Alison Lynch, Emma and Molly Murphy and Gunnar James; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemary Meyer; three brothers, William Gulick, Brother John Gulick, OFM, and Thomas Gulick; and his father-in-law, Gilbert Gansemer.

A James D. Gulick Memorial Fund has been established by the family.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Paulsen, the staff at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque and Hospice of Dubuque for the excellent care extended to Jim.
