James J. Flynn 85 of 15 1/2 Locust St. died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Xavier Hospital. He had been seriously ill the last three weeks.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Behr Funeral Home from where services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday to St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, near the Monastery. Mr. Flynn was born April 21,1869 at Peosta, a son of John and Mary Shea Flynn He lived in that vicinity almost all his life, moving to Dubuque in 1945. A retired farmer,he was a member of St Raphael's Cathedral Parish and the Holy Name Society. He married Rosemary Grace on February 12, 1901, at the Holy Family Church, New Mellery
He is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Louis (Grace)Brown of Dubuque, and Mrs. Elmer (Stella) Polfer of Denver,Colo. And three sons; James G. Flynn, Thomas C. Flynn, and Martin A. Flynn all of Dubuque. And 11 grandchildren and 2 great grand children and one brother John Flynn of Casper,Wy.
The Funeral was Thursday morning from the Behr Funeral Home to St. Raphael's Cathedral at 9:00 a.m. The Rev.Father C.J. McSweeney, assistant pastor, offered the Requiem High Mass and preached the sermon. The Burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery at New Mellery, with the Rev. Father William Michaels, pastor, officiating. The Pallbearers were; James McClean, George Duschen, Joseph Welsh, Bernard McDermott, Harold Danner and John Cavanaugh.
Mr.Flynn was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary on Dec. 9,1919, and one son John J.on June 16,1944, and 4 sisters; Ellen O'Brien in 1948,Elizabeth Meyer in 1935, Miss Mary Flynn in 1924, and Miss Catherine Flynn in 1952. And two brothers; Martin Flynn in 1933 and Thomas Flynn in 1933.
