Mrs. Margaret Grace 70 years old, a resident of Vernon township for many years. Passed away at the family home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, after a brief illness. Death came quite unexpectedly. The deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Alwood Kennedy pioneer settlers of Whitewater township. Mrs. Grace was born in 1845 in Whitewater township. She was married on Sept. 27, 1869 to Patrick Grace in St. Martin's Church at Cascade, Ia. Her husband preceded her in death in 1888. Mrs Grace was very kind and highly respected by a large group of friends and relatives. Mrs. Grace is survived by the following children; Mrs. James (Rosemary) Flynn, Thomas and John Grace and Miss Stella Grace all of Vernon township. Mrs. Grace is survived by three brothers; Joseph and Tobin Kennedy of Dubuque and William Kennedy of Omaha, Neb. And one sister Miss. Sarah A. Kennedy of Dubuque. The funeral will be held from the family residence in Vernon township to the Holy Family Catholic Church at the Monastery. Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock. The Rev. Father Placid McGhee will celebrate the requiem High Mass and read the prayers at grave site. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. The pall bearers were; William Byrne, George Reilly, John McFeeley, John Mulligan, John Brummer, John Broderick. The funeral was largely attended by the many friends and relatives of the deceased throughout the county.
Mrs. Grace was preceded in death by three sisters; Ellen Callaghan in 1902, Mary Kennedy in 1864, Marie Drew in 1907 and one brother John T. Kennedy in 1864. Telegraph Herald Jan. 21, 1916
