Joan Waddick
(August 30, 1932 - August 22, 2012)

Joan M. Waddick, 79, of Lori Ct., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at home with her faithful and loving husband, Robert, at her side.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at St. Anthony's Church with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at Hoffmann, Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Dubuque, daughter of Ellwood and Ludwina (Manders) Flick. She married Robert Waddick on Oct. 23, 1954, at Nativity Catholic Church.

Joan attended the Visitation Academy and graduated from Senior High School. Growing up, she enjoyed playing competitive basketball, volleyball, and softball. She worked as a secretary for the Engineering Dept. at Interstate Power Co. until starting her family in 1956. For the last 35 years, she worked as an election polls official for the City of Dubuque.

Joan belonged to St. Anthony's Parish and Rosary Society, Retired Firefighter's Organization, and was a charter member of Century Health Club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, and doing anacrostic puzzles. She was very talented at making Barbie doll wedding dresses and clothing. In her later years, she loved her daily card games with her husband. She also enjoyed going on short bus trips out-of-town with her girlfriends and was a huge Hawkeye fan.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Robert M. Waddick, and their 3 children, Michael (Cathy) Waddick, Julie Saeugling, and Daniel (Carol) Waddick, all of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Braden (Diana) Waddick, Colin (Laura) Waddick, Austin, Aaron, and Jordan Waddick, Sean (Sarah) Saeugling, Amber, Megan, Deborah, and Gabrielle Waddick; 4 great-grandchildren, Bryan, Alex, Ethan, and Addison Waddick; sister-in-laws Bernadette Vacarro of Davenport, Joan (James) Waddick, and Joan Flick of Dubuque; and nieces, Christine Hocker, Lisa Ellis and Kathleen Rochleau.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Flick; brothers- and sisters-in law, Joe and Margaret Waddick, James Waddick, Mary and Clarence Zahina, Theresa and Earl Wiedner, Celeste Rawson, Dorothy Waddick, and Charles Vacarro.

During mom's courageous battle with cancer, she was extremely appreciative of all the help she received from her devoted husband, Robert, and the round-the-clock nursing provided by her daughters, Julie Saeugling and Cathy Waddick.

Also, a special thanks for Mary Greil,Jim Miller, Megan and staff of Hospice, Jenny and the staff of Finley Homecare, and the Dubuque Internal Medicine Drs. and staff.

A Joan Waddick Memorial Fund has been established.
