Thomas N. Esser, 56, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Martin Page Funeral Home, Potosi, Wis., with the Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Esser taught computer graphics and photography at Washburn University, Topeka.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1946, in Dubuque, son of Gerhard and Anna (Thole) Esser.

He was a 1974 graduate of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, receiving a master of fine arts degree in photography and graphic design. He received a bachelor of arts degree in painting and printmaking from Loras College, Dubuque, in 1969.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities including walking and swimming.

Surviving are his fiancee, Irene Lehthers, and her son, Alex Pryamov, both of Topeka; a brother, Bernie (Debra) Esser, and their children, Jerad and Dana Mae Esser, all of Sparta, Wis.; a goddaughter, Jessica McCarty, of Dubuque; and a cousin, Tim (Sheila) McCarty, and their daughter, Pauline McCarty, all of Dubuque.
