Gerald C. Ahmann, 70, of 2285 Woodlawn St., died at 2:52 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Otting officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Ahmann worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 30 years, and in 1984, started D&J Lawn Service and worked until his retirement in 1998.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1932, in Farley, Iowa, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Meyer) Ahmann. He married Patricia Welchert on June 29, 1957, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

He served in the Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 150A and the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; a daughter, DeeAnn (Dale) Gaul, of Peosta, Iowa; a son, Doug (Mary) Ahmann, of Woodbury, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Katie, Maggie, Jane, Elizabeth, Shelby, Carley, Hans, Gretchen and Reba; two brothers, Doyle (Clara) Ahmann and Don (Joyce) Ahmann, both of Dubuque; and a sister, Bernice (Howard) Bibne, of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene; and a brother, Kenneth.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association and to Hospice of Clinton, Iowa.

The family of Gerald would like to thank the Alzheimer's Association, the staff at Crestridge Nursing Home and Hospice of Clinton, Iowa, for the great care, support and kindness they showed both Gerald and his family.
