Sandra J. Dix, 54, of 1226 Rhomberg Ave., died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Sandra worked at US Bank for the past 12 years.

She was born on March 28, 1949, in Dubuque, daughter of Richard and Joyce (Welter) Koons.

She married Daryl Dix on July 1, 1967, at Castle Air Force Base, Calif.; he preceded her in death on July 31, 1968, while serving his country with the Air Force. She then married Roger J. Bruggeman in July 1969.

She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitch, bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, family, friends and her two dogs.

Surviving are three sons, Randall Dix, of Rockville, Md., Cale Bruggeman, of Madison, Wis., and Steven Bruggeman, of Dubuque; a daughter, Angela (Bob) Hilkin, of Muscatine, Iowa; two grandchildren, Whitney and Jacob Hilkin; her parents, Richard and Joyce Koons, of Dubuque; a sister, Susan (Gene) Lovejoy, of Dubuque; her grandmother, Nettie Koons, of Dubuque; her former husband, Roger Bruggeman, of Dubuque; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and five one-in-a-million friends, Mary Ann, Lorie, Lou Ann, Chris and Betty. Last, but really first, her one and only, Bry.

In lieu of flowers, a Sandra J. Dix Memorial Fund has been established.

Thank-you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Barb, for the care and kindness they gave to Sandy and her family.
