Sister Mary Rita Clare McDonald, BVM, 89, of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Drive, died at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Carmel Motherhouse Chapel. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Mary Rita Clare taught in elementary schools in Chicago and Grayslake, Ill.; Kansas City, Mo.; Clermont and Mason City, Iowa; and St. Patrick's in Dubuque. She also served in parish ministry at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1913, in Elmo, Wis., daughter of John and Anna (Crimmins) McDonald.

She made her first profession of religious vows on March 19, 1939, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1944.

Surviving are a sister, Ann Haupert, of Dubuque; nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 66 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Retirement Fund.
