Raliegh Herrald, Sr.

Raliegh Herrald, Sr., 78, of 2005 Ogilby Road, formerly of Davis Junction, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
 
Services well be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Dubuque.   Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association.   Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.   Friends also may ball after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
 
He was born on Feb. 18, 1925, in Numa, Iowa, son of John and Sara Jane (Bond) Herrald.  He married Genevieve Thompson on Aug. 4, 1946, in Chariton, Iowa; she passed away on June 9, 1997.
 
Raliegh was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Okinawa and Korea.   He received the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a bronze star, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
 
Raliegh was a journeyman plumber who moved to Dubuque in 1963, and then moved to Davis Junction in 1980.   For the past three years, Raliegh had resided with his daughter, Linda Cole, in Dubuque.
 
He enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas, where he flew stunt kites on the beach.   Watching the Chicago White Sox and playing pinochle were a few a Raliegh's favorite pastimes.
 
He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 66.
 
Surviving are his children, Raliegh (Mary) Herrald, Jr., Linda (Michael) Cole and Michael Herrald, all of Dubuque, Lary (Nancy) Herrald of Oregon, Ill., and Lona (Donald) Steuer, of San Diego; 12 grandchildren, Beth (Scott) Putnam, Dave (Kris) Herrald, Chris (Jolyne Dress) Herrald, Jon (Stacy Kalb) Cole, Joel Cole, Meggan (Kevin) Johnston, Abbey (Stephen) Peterson, Wade Herrald, Ben Steuer, Sara (Tim) Bushman, Katie Steuer and Nicholas Herrald; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan and Logan Steuer, Bailey, Audrey and Ellen Herrald, Tristan Cole and Mitchell Bushman; and a sister, Francis (Delbert) Elder, of Richland, Wash.
 
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, his twin, Rolland, and Roy; and two sisters, Velma and Ida.
