Lenice V. "Pepper" Kingsley, 81, of 530 Kaufmann Ave., died at 10:02 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Temple United Pentecostal Church, 12347 Seippel Road, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., and after noon Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Kingsley was employed for 15 years at the former Dubuque Packing Co., and later as the dietary supervisor at Hills and Dales for nine years.

She was born on April 4, 1922, in Platteville, Wis., daughter of Albert and Violet (Hartnett) Burrows.

She married Harold Dement in 1941, in Dubuque. She later married Charles Kingsley on Aug. 21, 1954, in Dubuque; he died on Jan. 3, 1978.

She was a member of Faith Temple United Pentecostal Church, Dubuque. She was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years when her daughters were young.

Pepper liked cooking and gardening in her younger years. She was full of life and enjoyed people, especially children. Pepper's main love was Jesus! She was a woman of prayer and believed in loving everyone as Jesus loved us.

Surviving are a son, Glenn A. (Sammie) Dement, of Dubuque; two daughters, Lynn A. Kingsley-Murphy and Karen M. (Tom) Colson, both of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mae Dement, of Dubuque; three sisters, Hazel Rennison, Lucille Manders and Genevieve (Robert) Timmerman, all of Dubuque; a brother, Don (Joyce) Burrows, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Carol Burrows, of Downers Grove, Ill.; and a brother-in-law, Richard Duddeck, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Rocky Joe Dement in 1950, and Deane Dement in 1991; two sisters, Catherine Ernzen and Yvonne Duddeck; and three brothers, Clarence, Harold and Clyde Burrows.

A Lenice V. "Pepper" Kingsley Memorial Fund has been established.
