Elizabeth "Betty" Kuehnle, 78, of 3175 Pennsylvania Ave., formerly of 935 Nevada St., died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Kuehnle worked at the Telegraph Herald as wire photo editor and Women's Page editor, the former Rosheks Department Store as a bridal and gift consultant and fashion coordinator and at Stevens Smartwear as a sales and fashion coordinator.

She was born on June 1, 1925, in Dubuque, daughter of J. Harry and Mary T. (Butler) Schiltz. She married Carl E. Kuehnle on Feb. 6, 1960, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he died on March 20, 1995.

She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and attended the University of Colorado-Boulder.

She was a lifelong member of Nativity Parish, a former member of Mercy Hospital Service Club and was a volunteer Red Cross nurse's aid and medical assistant for International wounded in Tokyo, Japan, during the Korean War.

Betty loved golfing, bowling, swimming, boating and her summer cottage at Frentress Lake.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary T. (Dan) Lyons, of Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren, twins, Sean and Michael Lyons, of Naperville; a sister-in-law, Connie Schiltz, of Dubuque; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Harriet Graham; and brothers, Donald, John 'Jack,' Laverne and General Howard Schiltz.

An Elizabeth Kuehnle Memorial Fund has been established.
