Mrs. Merlin R. (Delia M.) Scheibe, 93, of Heritage Manor, formerly of 3125 Burden Ave., died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1909, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Genevieve "Jane" (Hillard) Kopp. She married Merlin R. Scheibe on May 7, 1934, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; he died on Jan. 7, 1999.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and its Rosary Society.

Delia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and full-time homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her family and friends. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone.

Surviving are five daughters, Jean A. Hammel (Thomas J. Hammel) and Joan M. Schmitt, both of Dubuque, Mary J. (Walter) Katuin, of Asbury, Iowa, Judy K. (Richard) Hierstein, of Pekin, Ill., and Joyce F. (Richard) Leibfried, of Ottumwa, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. William (Marie) Jewett, Mrs. George (Betty) Sebald and Mrs. Phil (Irene) Kelly; and five brothers, Jack, Joseph, Carl, Nick and Ralph Kopp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2215 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, Iowa, 52001.
