Carl D. "Fritz" Loewen, 82, of 655 Florence St., died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.

Mr. Loewen worked for 33 years at the former Dubuque Packing Co., retiring in 1983.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Al and Lena (Schobert) Loewen. Fritz married Anna Mae Brooks on July 3, 1948, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Fritz was born and raised in Dubuque, and attended St. Columbkille's School. He was a member of St. Columbkille's Parish and the Dubuque Men's Bowling Association. He bowled in the Retirement League at Creslanes and was a die-hard Cubs fan.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae; four sons, Daniel (Wanda) Loewen, of Baldwin, Iowa, Roger (Donna) Loewen, of Dubuque, Gregory Loewen, of Phoenix, and Rick (Lisa) Loewen, of Owasso, Okla.; nine grandchildren: Jesse (Traci) Loewen and Lee Susan, Tanner, Cale, Sarah, Matthew, Jessica, Beatrix and Luke Carl Loewen; a sister, Mary Hocking, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a brother, Al Loewen, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Maurice and Clarence.

The family requests no flowers. A Carl D. "Fritz" Loewen Memorial Fund has been established.
