Lawrence Francis Sawvel, 59, of Clarksville, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at home, from complications of cancer.

There will be no services or visitation. The Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on March 11, 1944, in Dubuque, son of Donald and Katherine (Hillier) Sawvel. He married Pamela Bar on June 19, 1969, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dubuque.

He attended Jefferson Junior High School and later completed his General Education Degree in the service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served there with the Army.

He lived in Dubuque for 40 years, where he worked on the river boats. He was a tanker man for Ingram Bardege Co. He also worked at Loras College and the Dubuque Water Department. He moved to Clarksville in 2000.

Lawrence was a member of the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Club, of Dubuque. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Surviving are his wife, Pam Sawvel, of Clarksville; three sons, Cory Sawvel and Kevin (Hannah) Sawvel, both of Clarksville, and Jeff Sawvel, of Fort Madison, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jay, Damien, Sidney, Wyatt and Kenneth; his mother, Katherine, of Dubuque; three brothers, Jim (Jeane) Sawvel, Donald (Elaine) Sawvel and Jack (Diane) Sawvel, all of Dubuque; and three sisters, Lois Selley, Kathy (Dan) Nestabe and Susan Sawvel, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Sawvel.
