John F. "Jack" Weidemann, 77, of 2614 Queen St., died at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003, at home, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Weidemann was employed at Capital Myers Cox Distributing Co. and also was a bartender in the Dubuque area for 40 years. He was lastly employed in security at Windsor Park.

He was born on April 16, 1926, in Rickardsville, Iowa, son of John and Susan (Lex) Weidemann. He married Irene E. Budden on Aug. 23, 1947, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Petersburg, Iowa; she died on May 27, 2002.

He served with the Army during World War II in the military police.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn A. (Rick) Mueller, of Asbury, Iowa; five sons, Tom J. (Bonnie) Weidemann, Mike A. (Julie) Weidemann, Terry J. (Linda) Weidemann, John J. Weidemann and Kevin G. (Cindy) Weidemann, all of Dubuque; 18 grandchildren, Abbi, Daniel, Valerie, Virginia, Margaret and T.J. Weidemann, Patrick, Kristy, Justin, Alexa and Quinton Weidemann, Michael and Jay Weidemann, Steven and Kari Mueller, Joshua (Kirsten) Weidemann and Lindsey and Hannah Weidemann; a great-grandson, Eli Weidemann; two sisters, Madaline Wagner, of Dubuque, and Rita Loch, of Asbury; two brothers, Gilbert "Gib" (Florence) Weidemann, of Asbury, and Merlin (Pat) Weidemann, of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Weidemann, in 1974; three grandchildren, Katrina, Jason and James Mueller; and a brother, Herbert Weidemann.

A John F. Weidemann Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John Whalen and the nurses and staff of Tri-State Dialysis, especially Charlie, for their care and concern for John.
