Mrs. Charles J. (Velma M.) Davidshofer, 75, of 1010 N. Booth St., died at noon Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1927, in Dubuque, daughter of Alphonse and Florence (Schwind) Maas. She married Charles J. Davidshofer on May 5, 1951, at Holy Ghost Church.

She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, class of 1945. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church Parish.

She was formerly employed as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Dubuque before she married. She also was a full-time wife, mother and homemaker.

Velma and Charlie enjoyed going to dances at the Melody Mill. She loved nature, birds and flowers and especially roses. She also enjoyed reading in her spare time.

Surviving are her husband, Charles J. Davidshofer; six daughters, Cathy A. Ludwig, of Dubuque, Anita M. (Craig) Vanderah, of Prior Lake, Minn., Peggy R. (Mike) Flanigan, of Beaverton, Ore., Mary L. (Tom) Schmitt, of Liscomb, Iowa, Liz R. (Ken) Keiter, of Olathe, Kan., and Janice L. (Wayne) Andersen, of Goldfield, Iowa; two sons, John C. (Dee Ann) Davidshofer, of Portland, Ore., and Donald J. Davidshofer, of Bloomington, Ill.; and 17 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Marian) Heiderscheit.
