Deceased Name: Mary L. Herrig
Mary Lidwina (Heinz) Herrig, 84, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 1940 Catherine St., died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the care center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1921, in Peosta, Iowa, daughter of John and Lidwina (Schmitt) Heinz. She married Leander P. "Lee" Herrig on Sept. 30, 1950, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Peosta; he preceded her in death on June 4, 2006.

She graduated from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Dubuque, in 1943.

She was a member of St. Raphael's Parish.

Surviving are eight children, Ann (Dave) Greiling, of Ogden, Utah, Paul (Paula) Herrig, George (Susan) Herrig, Phyllis (Cary) Matthews and Carol (Dan) Waddick, all of Dubuque, Thomas (Dolly) Herrig and Michele (Tom) Raynak, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Jean Herrig, of Tiffin, Iowa; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Heinz, of Dubuque, and Sophie Blong, of Des Moines; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eldon and Marge Herrig, of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Adeline McAndrews, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Lee Herrig, in 1988; three brothers, Joseph, Edward and John Heinz; a sister, Lucille Heinz; a brother-in-law, Matt Blong, on Dec. 1, 2005; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Herrig, on June 5, 2006.

A Mary Lidwina (Heinz) Herrig Memorial Fund has been established.
