Marcella E. Baal, 77, of 2000 Pasadena Drive, died Tuesday morning, July 8, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1925, in Dubuque, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Harvey) Schmitt.

She married Ralph Baal on June 9, 1943, at the Sherrill (Iowa) United Methodist Church. They farmed in the Dubuque County area for many years.

She was a longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Women of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Marcella was an excellent cook and loved the outdoors. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her greatest devotion in life was to her family.

Surviving are her children, Charlotte (Don) Schmitt, Sharon (Robert) Bradley, Rodney (Pam) Baal and Celeste (Wayne) Hefel, all of Dubuque, and Ralph (Mary) Baal, of Platteville, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille (Robert) Henkel, of Dubuque; and a very special friend, Marie Jannette, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ralph, in 1984.

A Marcella E. Baal Memorial Fund has been established.
