Deceased - On the 17th inst. Mr. Valentine Herancourt died, of consumption at his residence on Julien Avenue, in the forty-sixth year of his age. Mr. Herancourt was a native of Bavaria, and on immigrating to this country first resided at Columbus, Ohio. The young and prosperous city of Dubuque soon attracted his attention, and singly and alone he came here and engaged in the furniture business. He again went back to Columbus, married and again returned, making Dubuque his home for a period of twenty-two years. He was an old settler, and like many others of his intimate associates he has passed away, to fill an honored grave, and to raise another little mound as an emblem, that there lies one who watched over our city in its infancy.

Mr. Herancourt leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. He was a kind husband and indulgent father, and a good citizen. May his memory remain green, and may his charities and virtues ever be considered worthy of imitation.
