Sister Mary Helen Clare Ryan, BVM, 103, of the Caritas Center, 1130 Carmel Drive, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday morning, June 29, 2003, at the center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Marian Hall Chapel, with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.
Sister Mary was an elementary school teacher in Cicero, Chicago, Rock Island and Maywood, Ill.; Boone, Waucoma, Clinton and Iowa City, Iowa; Lead, S.D.; Kauai, Hawaii; and Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1900, in Dubuque, daughter of John J. and Johanna (Donovan) Ryan.
She made her first profession of religious vows on Jan. 1, 1921; and her final profession of religious vows on Aug. 15, 1924.
Surviving are the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 85 years.
Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Retirement Fund.
