Arline Kruse Harms 1922-2011

Arline M. Harms, 88, of Stonehill Care Center, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Rosonke officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque (Ill.) Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1922, in Dubuque, daughter of William and Annette (Spofford) Schaefer.

She was married to Richard Kruse, and they were blessed with five children together. Later, Arline was married to Jake Harms and was widowed after just a few short years.

She retired from William C. Brown Publishing, where she worked as a secretary.

She was a very active member of the Dubuque Business Women's Club. She also was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where she was an organist for many years.

Arline was an expert seamstress and crocheter. All of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been blessed by "GiGi's" creative and giving spirit. She was a kind, loving and gentle woman with a strong belief in God, family and friends. She was loved for her thoughtful, caring way.

Surviving are five children, Connie (Don) Kramer, of Des Moines, Jim (Carol Tressel) Kruse, of East Dubuque, Kim (Terry) Chalupsky, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kathy Trimble, of Kansas City, Kan., and Terry (Cherie) Kruse, of Denver; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; her dear sisters, Marion Meyer and Jeanne Weeber, both of Dubuque, and Lori Grice, of Capitola, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Schaefer, of East Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Schaefer; and a sister, Rose Millard.

Memorials may be given to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Arline was loved and cared for by the staff at Stonehill Care Center, Hospice of Dubuque and devoted physicians at Medical Associates. The family extends a thank-you to all of them.
