Mrs. Clifford J. (Mary J.) Lorenz, Sr., 93, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 1292 Wood St., died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the care center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nativity Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lorenz formerly worked at Edwards Ready to Wear in Dubuque.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1909, in Dubuque, daughter of Peter and Josephine (Wernimont) Aird. She married Clifford J. Lorenz, Sr. on Oct. 15, 1930, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1989.

She was a graduate of the former Academy of the Visitation and after graduation studied piano.

She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and the Nativity Guild. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Dubuque Court 1287, The St. Dominic Club, the Catholic Mothers Club and the Widow and Widowers Club. Mary and her husband, Cliff, were charter members of the Pickwick Club.

Surviving are a son, Clifford J. (Mary) Lorenz, Jr., of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a grandson, Mark J. (Laurie) Lorenz, of Plymouth, Ind.; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Eli and Rebekah Lorenz.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadine Gross; and five brothers, John, Clem, Jack, Arthur and Charles Aird.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center, 3485 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001, The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), 350 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001 and Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.
