Gary L. Cremer, 61, of 17525 Melody Circle, died at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, surrounded by family and friends.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Canton, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Cremer co-owned and operated Cremer's Grocery on Rhomberg Avenue in Dubuque for more than 40 years.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1942, in Dubuque, son of Ralph J. and Marie (Vogt) Cremer. He married Donna K. Isaacs Kennedy on April 20, 1974, in Dubuque.

He attended the former Loras Academy. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Dubuque Boat Club. Gary was an avid bowler and was a member of the 700 Club and the 800 Club. He faithfully attended the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.

In the past, he enjoyed camping, boating, snowmobiling and golfing. Gary especially enjoyed family vacations and the many family gatherings throughout the year.

Surviving are his wife, Donna L. Cremer; two daughters, Sheri L. Scheffert (Paul Kasulka), of Colman, S.D., and her children, Kellie, Lisa, Steve and Kevin, and Shelley A. (Jay) Lanser, of Dubuque, and their daughters, Alicia and Amanda; four sons, Mike (Peggy) Kennedy, of Dubuque, and their children, Melissa, Jennifer and Matthew, Dan (Beth) Kennedy, of Dubuque, and their sons, Tyler and Adam, Tim Kennedy, of Dubuque, and his daughter, Breanna, and Jeff Cremer (Ann Halverson), of Dubuque; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandi (Jim) Klinge, of Dubuque, and Carol (Gary) Schubert, of Eldridge, Iowa; a brother, Ralph "Junior" (Vivian) Cremer Jr., of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to the Dreams for Tomorrow Foundation, a local organization supporting children and their families.
