Mrs. Maynard R. (Anne B.) Slaght, 78, of 1607 Garfield Ave., formerly of 2723 Elm St., died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1584 White St., with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1924, in Dubuque, daughter of William and Luellen (McDermott) Rowan. She married Maynard R. Slaght on Oct. 4, 1944, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She was employed as a nurses aide and a licensed practical nurse at the former Xavier Hospital and Holy Family Hall at Mount St. Francis for 20 years until her retirement.

Anne was a member of St. Mary's Parish. She especially appreciated a good joke and a card game. She was an avid fan of Sammy Sosa and the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving are her husband, Maynard R. Slaght; three daughters, Luanne M. (Richard) Davis Jr., of Rockford, Ill., Laura E. (Tom) Leick and Andrea J. (Jim) Yeager, both of Dubuque; three sons, Michael J. (Caroline) Slaght, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Steven J. (Kathy) Slaght and William R. (Laura) Slaght, both of Dubuque; 18 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Rowan, of Applington, Iowa, Lois Rowan, of Belvidere, Ill., and Colleen Rowan, of Westmoreland, Kan.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Helen Krepfle, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, in 1969; a granddaughter, Katie Davis, in 1980; five brothers, Kenneth, Cletus, Justin, Adrian and Jerome Rowan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's Parish, 1584 White St., Dubuque, Iowa 52001.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Schmid, Dr. Whelan and Dr. Chapman and the nurses and staff of the fourth floor at Mercy Medical Center for their care and concern for Anne and the family.
