CASCADE, Iowa - Irene M. Gleason, 81, of 200 Johnson St. NW, Cascade, died at 8:33 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, in Cascade, with Monsignor Albert Manternach officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion-Post 528. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m., and the Cascade Fire Department will meet at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1921, in Cascade, daughter of Christopher and Margaret (Neyens) Cigrand.

She received her education in the former St. Mary's School in Cascade, and received her nursing degree at the former Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque. She was a World War II Army Veteran.

On July 19, 1945, she married George Gleason in Cincester, England.

She was employed at the former John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, until her retirement in 1972.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade, and a member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528.

Surviving are her husband, George Gleason, of Cascade; seven children, Robert (Mary Jane) Gleason, of Dyersville, Peggy (Phil) Hird, of Bernard, Diana Hedrick, of Cascade, Rick (Linda) Gleason, of Dubuque, Blair (Donna) Gleason and Tom (Anita) Gleason both of Cascade, Garry (Cindy) Gleason, of Iowa City; a daughter-in-law, Chris Gleason, of Ames; 22 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph (Jean) Cigrand, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dave Gleason, on Oct. 24, 1998; a son-in-law, Bob Hedrick, on January 20, 1996; and two brothers, Donald and Alvin Cigrand.
