Deceased Name: Gloria D. Engler

Gloria D. Engler, 88, of 2955 Kaufmann Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Dubuque Nursing & Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service recited at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Engler worked at Sweetheart Bakery for a number of years. She later worked in the cafeteria at John Deere Dubuque Works for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1919, in Dubuque County, daughter of Robert and Mary (Harvey) Witter. Gloria was born and raised in rural Dubuque County.

She married Lloyd Vorwald in October 1942, in Guttenberg, Iowa; he passed away in December 1943. Gloria later married Leo Engler on Aug. 2, 1949, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sherrill, Iowa; he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1969.

Gloria enjoyed crocheting and gardening.

Surviving are a daughter, Kay (David) Abresch, of Dubuque; two grandsons, Michael (Ilda) Abresch, of Buda, Texas, and Eric Abresch, of Rosenberg, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Michael, David and Jacob; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Jessica, Eric and Matthew; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Donald Abresch; three sisters, Pearl Robey, Margaret Haisch and Sylvia Kressig; and two brothers, Harvey and Herman Witter.

A Gloria Engler Memorial Fund has been established.

The Engler family wishes to thank the staffs at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and support.
