Mrs. Bernice C. Schiessl, 77, of 122 Stoltz St., died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with the Rev. David J. Ambrosy and the Rev. Paul J. Otting, officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a Holy Ghost Catholic Church Parish Christian wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Schiessl worked in housekeeping and laundry at the Dubuque Healthcare Center for 12 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, she worked at the former Lady of Lourdes Nursing Home.

She was born on May 23, 1925, in St. Donatus, Iowa, daughter of Nicholas and Josephine (LeConte) Ambrosy. She married Anton J. "Tony" Schiessl on April 18, 1945, at the St. Donatus (Iowa) Catholic Church; he died on June 17, 1997.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and its rosary society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Holy Ghost and Table Mound Senior Citizens Clubs and was a regular weekly worker at bingo nights at Holy Ghost Church. She also served faithfully in the church funeral choir.

Surviving are three brothers, Lavern (Marie) Ambrosy, Ralph Ambrosy and Harold (Ruth) Ambrosy, all of Dubuque; nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Ambrosy, of Zwingle, and Marie Van de Wiel, of Dubuque; and a brother-in-law, Joseph (Grace) Schiessl, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Merlin, Sylvester and Vincent Ambrosy.

A Bernice C. Schiessl Memorial Fund has been established by her family.
