Mrs. Charles (Mildred) Parkins, 96, of 2617 Van Buren Ave., died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Summit Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Parkins worked at Al Fitz Insurance Co., the former H.B. Glover Co. and co-owned Parkie's Snack Bar.

She was born on Nov. 4, 1906, in Dubuque, daughter of William and Mary (Brune) Wade. She married Charles Parkins on Dec. 13, 1924; he died on Jan. 12, 1985.

She attended Irving School and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. She was a member of Summit Congregational Church. She loved playing with her great-grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards.

Surviving are her daughter, Katherine (Don) O'Meara; a son-in-law, Donald Kubitz; two grandsons, Tim (Janell) O'Meara and Jim Kubitz; two granddaughters, Tori O'Meara and Kim (Frank) Robinson; four great-grandchildren, Myranda and Shane O'Meara, and Matthew and Allison Robinson.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Kubitz; her parents; two sisters, Anita Wade and Katherine Raines; and her stepfather, Al Ruhland.

A Mildred Parkins Memorial Fund has been established.

Mildred wanted to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Mozena, Dr. Lengeling and Dr. Whalen for all their great care over the past years. Her daughter and family wish a special thank-you to the Visiting Nurses, Finley Home Care, Hospice of Dubuque and the Rev. Stewart Brooks of Summit Congregational Church for all the extra special care given to her mom.
