Donald E. Culbertson

Donald E. Culbertson, 80, of 1306 Lincoln Ave., Dubuque, formerly of East Dubuque, IL., died at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at home, of natural causes.

Chapel services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.

Mr. Culbertson worked at the Blum Co. as a truck driver and crane operator for 35 years.

He was born on May 20, 1922, in Dubuque, son of David and Bertha (Butler) Culbertson. He married Clara A. Hore on Dec. 13, 1941, in Dubuque.

He served in the Army Air Corps for three years during World War II. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal for Bravery for saving a woman's life.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and being with his dog, Big Red.

Surviving are his wife, Clara A. Culbertson; four daughters, Patricia Brandenburg and Pamela (Kerry) Bussan, both of Dubuque, Bonnie (John) Cate, of Peosta, Iowa, and Susan Beaves, of Loves Park, IL.; five sons, Donald Culbertson, Thomas (Linda) Culbertson, Joseph (Lisa) Culbertson, Walter (Julie) Culbertson and James Culbertson, all of Dubuque; and 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Culbertson; a great-grandson, Christopher Allen; a son-in-law, Harold Brandenburg; two sisters, Mrs. Gordon (Ruth) Keisgen and Mrs. Vince (Pearl) Loeffelholz; and two brothers, Walter and Harold (Liz) Culbertson.
