Oscar F. Burgmeyer, Jr., 83, of ManorCare Health Services, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Melleray Abby Monastery, where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps. League.

Mr. Burgmeyer worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 32 years, retiring in 1979.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Oscar F. Sr. and Lillian (Kupperschmidt) Burgmeyer. He married Frances Lannon on Dec. 24, 1942; she preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1981. He married Ann Hickie on March 17, 1990.

He graduated from Senior High School and then served in the Army during World War II.

He was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and its Holy Name Society. Oscar also was very involved in the Power of Prayer.

Oscar had a wonderful satirical sense of humor and he enjoyed working with metal crafting during his retirement years. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and riding his motor scooter.

Surviving are his wife, Ann, of Dubuque; two children, Judith A. Simon, of Peosta, and Michael F. (Susan) Burgmeyer, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Mark (Tina) Simon and their children: Bryce, Brock and Jordan; David (Dana) Simon and their children: Dilan, Carter and Tanner; Shane (Patti) Simon and their children: Evan and Blake; Scott (Beth) Burgmeyer and their children: Joshua and Aby; Tina (Shawn) Lampe and their children: Samuel and Theresa; Amy (Troy) Rambousek and their son, Maxwell; three granddaughters: Madonna, Regina and Sara; and his former spouse, Eileen Breeze.

He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Joy Burgmeyer; a son-in-law, Merlin E. Simon; and three sisters: Viola Jaeger, Genny Koenig and Booty Cook.
