Edward J. Wallig, Jr.

Edward J. Wallig, Jr., 78, of 17570 Gardeners Lane, died peacefully at home at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, surrounded by family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Wallig managed Barker Shoe Store for 40 years and later the Hotline Shoes Store in Kennedy Mall. After his retirement, Ed worked as a courier and in the mail room at Dubuque Bank & Trust.

He was born on July 13, 1927, in Dubuque, son of Edward J. and Myrtle (Chandler) Wallig. He married Vianna J. "Dolly" Bradshaw on Oct. 23, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque; she preceded him in death on July 4, 1995.

Ed served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Navy Seabee in Okinawa, Japan.

He was a member of St. Mary's Parish and the Eagles Club. Ed also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6 and their Funeral Detail.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing euchre.

Surviving are a daughter, Cathy S. (Bruce) Davis, of Dubuque; a son, Steve C. (Fran) Wallig, of Frankfort, Ill.; four grandchildren, Robyn Kohnen, Abbey Wallig, Jason (Chrissy) Davis and Nikki (Sean) Morrissey; three great-grandsons; a sister, Nancy (Bob) Schuckert, of Peosta, Iowa; two brothers, Carl (Alice) Wallig, of Waterloo, Ill., and Lyle (Peggy) Wallig, of Wilmington, Del.; and nieces and nephews.
