Virginia Blach

Virginia (Schrup) Blach, 73, of Menlo Park, Calif., formerly of Dubuque, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at home, following a battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Raymond Catholic Church, Menlo Park, where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. today. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Menlo Park. There will be no visitation.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1932, in Dubuque, daughter of Anthony Francis and Myrtle Veronica (Mulgrew) Schrup.

While growing up in Dubuque, Virginia attended St. Raphael's Cathedral School, The Visitation High School, and Clarke College before moving to Chicago to start her professional career. Virginia then relocated to San Francisco in 1960, where she met her husband, Donald C. Blach. They were married on June 30, 1962, and raised three children.

Virginia, a longtime resident of Menlo Park, was an active volunteer and fund-raiser for her children's schools including St. Raymond School, Sacred Heart Prep and Bellarmine College Prep.

Once the children were grown, Virginia went to work at the California State Automobile Association in the touring department, where she enjoyed helping people plan their vacations.

After retiring, Virginia focused on her many cherished relationships including her ailing husband, loving grandchildren and her longtime friends. She enjoyed her many clubs and activities where she celebrated her faith and friendships.

She is survived by her children, Donald (Peggy) Anthony, of San Jose, Calif.; Mary (Larry Bach) Frances, of Los Altos, Calif.; and William (Kellie) Powers, of San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren, Christopher, Kate, Caroline, Meg, Charlie and Ellie; and siblings, Louise Linn, of Dubuque, Margaret Bickel, of Ossining, N. Y., John R. Schrup, of Riverside, Calif., James M. Schrup, of Rock Island, ill., and Anne Miller, of Akron, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Chapman Blach, her siblings, Mary Poinsett, Myrtle Frank and Charles Schrup.
