Robert F. Gibbs

Robert F. Gibbs, 91, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 820 Wilson Ave., died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the care center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bellevue, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Gibbs was a carpenter and millwright associated with the Carpenters Union, Local 678. He was an accomplished craftsman and enjoyed his work.

He was born on April 2, 1914, in La Motte, Iowa, son of Edmund and Letitia (Connelly) Gibbs. He married Norma M. Kieffer on June 28, 1941, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue; she preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 1997.

Rob and his family had been longtime members of Nativity Parish.

He was a very loyal husband and father and was proud of his Irish heritage. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Surviving are a daughter, Anne M. (Timothy) Lawlor, of LaCrescent, Minn.; three sons, Tom (Dorothy) Gibbs, William J. (Patti) Gibbs and James E. Gibbs, all of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Connie Gibbs, of Dubuque; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Montgomery, Catherine Pickart, Loretta Buchanan and Margaret Cahill; and five brothers, Vincent, John, Thomas, Carl and Edmund Gibbs.
