William J. Kauder, Jr.

CASCADE, Iowa -- William J. "W.J." Kauder, Jr., 80, of 107 Tyler St., Cascade, died at 5:37 a.m. Sunday, July 15, 2007, at the Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with Monsigner Thomas Tuale officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528 following Mass. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Kauder owned and operated Bill's Standard and Kauder Photography. He also was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Co.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1926, in Cascade, son of William L. and Florence I. (Dunn) Kauder. He married Rita Knockel on Aug. 24, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade.

He attended the former St. Martin's High School in Cascade, and later acquired his GED.

Bill was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, a member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528 and a member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930.

Bill was a Golden Gloves boxer. He enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, baking bread, brewing beer, golf and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Rita Kauder, of Cascade; five children, Liz (Pat) Barry, of Mililani, Hawaii, Susie (Ron) Steffen, Bart (Heather Rogge) Kauder and Kyle (Anne) Kauder, all of Cascade, and Kit (Troy) McMann, of Martelle; 12 grandchildren, Capt. (Dr.) Katie Barry, of Camp Zema, Japan, Kelli Barry, of Cedar Falls, AFC P.J. Barry, of Lackland AFB, Texas, Shannon Barry, of Mililani, Crystal (Ken) Bradley, of Minneapolis, Brandie (Aaron) Couch, of Amarillo, Texas, Alex Steffen, of Cascade, Josh Kauder, of Cascade, Pvt. 2 Jake Kauder, of Ft. Sill, Okla., Amanda Kauder, of Cascade, and Kayla Kauder and Vic Kauder, both of Cascade; two great-grandchildren, Devin Kauder and Madison Deutmeyer, both of Cascade; a step-great-grandchild, Issac Bradley, of Minneapolis; and four sisters, Jacquie Lambert, of Monticello, and Phyllis Dolphin, Lois (John) Sullivan and Nancy (Richard) Sullivan, all of Cascade.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, William J. Kauder, in November of 1952; a son, William (Floyd) Kauder III, on Oct. 8, 2004; two brothers, Fred Kauder and Kenneth "P.J." Kauder; and two brothers-in-law, John "Skip" Dolphin and Lavern Lambert.
