Norman J. Zepeski, 89, of 1915 Carter Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating, and military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Private family burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 5:30 p.m.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1920, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Bernice (Cartigny) Zepeski. On April 17, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Reiff at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. They were blessed with 59 years of loving life together.
Norman graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1938. He was later inducted into the school's hall of fame for his contributions in filming and editing of football games, team sports pictures and paintings of the school's mascot in the gymnasium.
He attended the University of Dubuque and flight school at the University of North Dakota. He served in the Air Force as a B-24 and B-25 pilot, flying training missions for radar, bombardiers and navigations.
Norman was owner and operator of Link Photographers for more than
50 years. He was an accomplished artist and wood carver and was a member of the Dubuque Museum of Art. He contributed charcoal art of Dubuque history and architecture for a local bank's annual calendar and many artistic contributions to public and private endeavors.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, of Dubuque; sons, David (Kay) Zepeski, of Dubuque, and Jay (Sondra) Zepeski, of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Douglas Zepeski, Scott Zepeski, Laura Zepeski, Taylor Zepeski, Kaitlin O'Malley, Zachary Zepeski, Zachary Mixdorf, Nathan Mixdorf, Myra Mixdorf, Justin Mixdorf and Ayla Mixdorf; great-grandchildren, McKenzee and Madden; and his walking partner, "Shadow."
He was preceded in death by his sister, Violet Schultz.
In lieu of flowers, a Norman Zepeski Memorial fund has been established.
