Mr. Herbert H. Eberly, 91, of 12757 Sherrill Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at 3:50 p.m. at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dubuque Bible Church, with Pastors Timothy Jeske and Richard Eberly officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call form 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1911, in Lisbon, N.D., son of Frederick and Lydia (Beiser) Eberly. On Nov. 12, 1945, he married Mary Ellen Preston.

He spent most of his younger years farming with his father. After his marriage he began working at the Adams Co. for several years and later worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 29 years prior to retiring in 1976.

He was a longtime member of the Dubuque Bible Church, where he served as deacon for many years. He also was an honorary elder of the church. He loved the church, but most of all he loved his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He accepted Jesus as his savior when he was a young boy and had served him ever since.

One of his favorite sayings was "The longer I serve him, the sweeter he grows." He was a godly example to his wife and children.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen Eberly; a son, Richard (Janice) Eberly, of Friendship, Wis.; a daughter, Linda Eberly, at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five sisters, Edna, Helen, Inez, Ruth and Alice.

A Herbert H. Eberly Memorial Fund has been established by his family.
