Eddie C. Damaso, 91, of 2050 Key Largo Dr., died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9663 will meet at 6 p.m.
He was born on April 22, 1912, in Morong, Rizal, Philippines, son of Nicolas and Juliana (Cayetano) Damaso.
Eddie immigrated to the United States when he was 17 and enlisted in the First Filipino Infantry, Fort McArthur, Calif. He served in the US Army during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He worked at the California Technical Institute, Pasadena, Calif., as a chef until his retirement in 1977.
He married Benedicta Latina on March 29, 1980, in the Philippines and they came to Dubuque in 1981.
Eddie was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and the VFW Post 9663 in Dubuque. He enjoyed gardening and fishing, going to the dog track and making toy airplanes.
Surviving are his wife, Benedicta Damaso; two sons, Kenneth Damaso and Michael Damaso, both of Dubuque; a brother, Isidro Damaso, of Dubuque; and his mother-in-law, Nemesia C. Latina, of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cornelio, Primo and Isidoro Damaso; and two sisters, Telesfora D. Asuncion and Simeona D. Inguito.
