Mr. Russell R. Kerth, 78, of 225 Saunders St., died at 4:02 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, suddenly and peacefully of natural causes.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a Holy Ghost Catholic Church Parish Christian wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Kerth worked for 35 years at A.Y. McDonald Supply Co., retiring in April 1987, as a warehouse foreman.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Dubuque, son of John and Anna (Hedrick) Kerth. He married LaVonne T. Regan on July 26, 1952, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

He was a lifetime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and was a former member of the Machinists Union Local 1238.

He was an avid gardener, card player, dancer and musician.

Russell will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was always there when you needed him with a smile. His sense of humor kept everyone laughing. His happiest times were when he was with his family and visiting the Black Hills.

Surviving are his wife, LaVonne T. (Regan) Kerth; two daughters, Peggy (Jack) Baker, of Dubuque, and Jacqueline (Neal) Levine, of Schaumburg, Ill.; four grandchildren, Russell, Emily and Sara Baker and Megan Levine; and two sisters, Marilyn (Marvin) Leslein, of Dubuque, and Virginia Kerth, of Kokomo, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and four sisters, Marjorie White, Annette Ament, Ruth Kohnen and Doris Sack.

The family requests no flowers. A Russell R. Kerth Memorial Fund has been established by his family.

A special thanks to the staff of Mercy Medical Center- Dubuque, Sister Margaret Dunn and Dr. Nachtman for their compassion.
