Sister (Mary) Carmelia Hanses, BVM

Sister (Mary) Carmelia Hanses, BVM, 92, of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Drive, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at Marian Hall.

Services will at 11 a.m. Friday at Marian Hall Chapel, with burial in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Marian Hall, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Carmelia worked in speech therapy and taught speech correction at Mundelein College in Chicago for 51 years. She also served on the Special Works Commission of the BVM Community.

She was born on July 7, 1910, in Chicago, daughter of John Joseph and Mary Ellen (Wharton) Hanses.

She made her first profession of religious vows on Aug. 15, 1932; and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1938.

Surviving are cousins; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 73 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Retirement Fund.
